Leadership Team

Kathi Evans RNC, BSN Co-Founder, President
At the tender age of eleven years old Kathi “heard” the Holy Spirit call her into foreign missions. Unsure of the ministry vehicle that God wanted to use to send her, after graduating from high school she decided to go to college to pursue a degree in nursing. Upon entering nursing school she felt called to obstetrical nursing.

While initially this call seemed much too enjoyable to be a calling from God, working in a Labor and Delivery unit in an urban hospital just south of Philadelphia become much more challenging after Kathi and her husband, Mark, lost their second baby in the sixteenth week of her pregnancy in 1987.

However, in July of 2001 Kathi had her first taste of foreign missions with a youth team from Calvary Chapel of Delaware County to Trinidad. On subsequent medical missions God confirmed that her calling to this area of nursing was preparation for what was to come. Since that time Kathi has participated in and assisted with training and leading an average of two foreign missions each year. Kathi is certified in Childbirth Education and Inpatient Obstetrics and trained in obstetrical ultra sounds.

Kathi enjoys studying God's Word, reading, singing, drama, swimming, spending time with Mark - her best friend, adviser, biggest supporter, and husband, as well as her son, Jason and daughter-in-love, Jen, teaching women’s Bible studies, and public speaking especially to parents who are living through the trauma of losing a baby.

Kathi’s first book, Our Baby, Our Love, Our Loss, can be found on-line through the publisher, Wheatmark. She is in the process of working on a few other writing projects focusing on the journey that led her to the vision of Touching Lives Ministry and some of the spiritual lessons she has learned on the foreign mission field.

A scripture verse that summarizes Kathi’s excursion from a call heard as a child to the birth of TLM many years later is found in Ecc. 11:1 – Cast your bread upon the waters, For you will find it after many days.

Mark Evans, Co-Founder, Vice President
Mark was born and raised in Chester, Pa. He was brought up in the Lutheran Church but began attending the local Salvation Army as a teenager. It is there that he met Kathi, who was attending Widener University. And it was there that they got married on June 18, 1977!

Mark’s interests are diverse and he often quips that he should begin a “Dutch Boy Ministry!” He has worked in electronics and in the chemical industry. He is an avid sports enthusiast and although he cannot enjoy participating in most of them due to a disability resulting from spinal cord stenosis, he is still able to enjoy one of his passions: golfing.

He is a gifted guitarist who enjoys worshiping the Lord through his voice and guitar in home Bible studies, retreats, weddings, funerals – whenever the opportunity arises!

Mark also loves studying and teaching the Word of God and has found much comfort and encouragement from Isaiah 40:31 "They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint."

Connie Beecher, Arts Director
Connie Beecher was born and raised in a family of artists, in Broomall, Pennsylvania, and has worked full time in the art business for thirty years. She has created various forms of art in the fields of advertising, collectables, as well as textiles, as an illustrator, graphic artist, and art director.

Five years after accepting Jesus Christ as her personal Savior, Connie took part in a mission trip with Calvary Chapel of Delaware County to Trinidad. This trip left a large impression on her heart regarding the arts and how God can use them for His glory. Connie continued to serve, by leading an arts team in her home church, implementing arts into their Sunday services and by working along side the pastor, to create graphics for his teaching series and other church related events.

Connie is currently developing her own line of graphic resources for churches and supports specific missionaries with her fine art and graphic services, through her company, Butterfly Studios. Connie teaches a home Bible study for women, and enjoys adding a creative twist to each lesson.

Connie feels especially privileged to be involved with the mission work of Touching Lives by serving on the board of directors, as well as using her art to support Kathi, personally, as a missionary.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come!" 2 Corinthians 5:17

Barry is a partner in a progressive dental practice in Glenside, PA [www.dynamicmoderndentistry.com] and attends St Luke the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church.

Pam Harris-HamanCRNP, NNP-BC, Secretary
Born and raised in a small town outside of Johnstown, Pa, Pam was brought up in the United Methodist Church. Following high school Pam attended Penn State for her nursing degree and Georgetown University for her nurse practitioner training. Her passion for babies has been life-long and has led her to work in a NICU for her nursing career. She has extensive experience teaching including presenting lectures at hospitals in China and has also been the camp nurse for the United Methodist Conference camps.

Pam's interest in missions work was first placed on her heart years ago through one of her daughters’ teachers. She has spent many years developing the tools God desired for her to have to pursue this calling. In 2011 Pam met Kathi through a process only God could arrange, and Pam joined the medical mission team to Sanjweru in October 2011.

Feeling the yearning for a deeper relationship with God and a pull towards more biblical based teachings she began attending Garden Chapel in Middletown, Pa. There she is involved in the ladies ministry as well as Seed Sowers ministries. Pam also enjoys swimming, sewing, canoeing, reading and spending time with her family. God has impressed upon her heart to care for babies and children, to teach mother to care for their children and to train health care providers in order to increase the survival and improve outcomes for these tiny blessings God has given us. Mark 10:27 ....for all things are possible with God.

Scott Rice M.D.Medical Director
Although "home grown" in the Allentown, Pa. area, after graduating from high school he began his journey to become a pediatrician at the University of Delaware. After graduating with honors from U.of D., he entered the United States Army Reserve Health Professions Scholarship Program. He attended Temple University School of Medicine in 1991 and retired from the Army as a Major in 1998.

But it was in 2003 while on a medical missions trip to Kenya that God put a burden on Scott's heart for the poor around the world who have little or no access to health care. Since then he has returned to Kenya twice to participate in and lead medical camps. His heart was stirred once again after the tragic earthquake in Haiti and he not only went there to offer his services but has since joined the board of directors of Mercy Village Clinic and Home.

Scott resides in Allentown Pa. with his wife and partner in ministry, Ruth, and their two sons and daughter. Despite his busy schedule, he sometimes finds time to volunteer in the children's ministy at their church, Faith Evangelical Free Church.

We were honored and blessed to add Scott to the TLM leadership team in November of 2010 as our Medical Director. His expertise, leadership skills, and heart have already proven to be a blessing and we continually thank God for him
